This is the second of a series of three volumes from the AHA publication program. The volumes come from an NEH Summer Institute on gendered global history. At the conclusion of a recent Summer Institute, the NEH Scholars in Residence prepared a long essay on their area of expertise. These essays were submitted to the AHA for review by experts in each area of history covered by the essay. They were initially published as pamphlets of 40-60 pages. 20 pamphlets were planned (5 have been published and have been selling for a short period of time. The women's committee of the AHA, which sponsors and oversees these volumes, had planned that the individual pamphlets would then be bundled to make three books. When our co-publishing agreement was reached we asked that the AHA not publish further pamphlets until we had a reasonable period to sell the three book volumes. As with previous books of this type from the OAH and AHA, the books are aimed at scholars, students, and high school teachers who are interested or need to update their history courses and integrate the latest feminist scholarship. The first volume we published dealt with broad historical themes. This volume discusses current trends in gender/women's history from a regional perspective including: sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, Early and Modern Europe, Russian and the Soviet Union, Latin American, and North America after 1865.
