Betty Syverson retired after years of nursing. Household moves through eight states opened work in many areas - medical, surgical, pediatrics, obstetrics, ENT office, psychiatry, home health and geriatrics. When retired, she volunteered in a hospice. She now lives with her husband in the Minneapolis suburb of Richfield, MN. She attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN one year, and then graduated from Fairview Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis. She pursued her interest in writing by taking the Oklahoma Writing Course, attending the Decision School of Writing two years, taking a writing class and attending writing workshops. Augsburg Fortress published her devotional book, Bible Readings for Caregivers. She has also contributed pages for Christ in Our Home and The Word in Season. She self-published her memoir about growing up on the Emmet County poor farm near Estherville, Iowa. The title: How I Grew Up Rich on the Poor Farm. She has also been published in The Lutheran, Lutheran Digest, Catholic Digest, Journal of Christian Nursing and Simple Pleasures. Although writing is her most enjoyable pastime, she volunteers for church work, Meals-on-Wheels, the Secret Pal program (senior church members connect with youth), nursing home and care team visits. She enjoys getting the family together, sewing and knitting projects, serving on the vespers and hospitality committee in her condo.
