This collection of essays celebrates the working retrievers, the Labs, Brittanies, and Goldens Chris Madson has trained, worked, lived with, and loved over his and their lifetimes. There are stories of choosing the right pup and the trials of the early years; stories of time in the fields hunting pheasant, prairie grouse, and Gambrel's quail; and stories of the strong bond that comes with spending years with these special companions. Madson writes with affection, humor, and fond remembrance of these special relationships with the breeds that have shared the field work, family life, his home, and his heart.
Chris Madson has an MS in wildlife ecology from University of Wisconsin. He has been editor of Kansas Wildlife and Wyoming Wildlife. A freelance writer and photographer, he is published in Audubon, Outdoor Life, National Wildlife, Nature Conservancy Magazine, High Country News, DU, Wing and Shot, Pheasants Forever, and Sporting Classics, to name some of the many publications that carry his work regularly. He lives in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
