In this text two economists - one from the US, the other, Europe - offer transatlantic perspsectives on the ramifications of the launch of the Euro. C. Randall Hennings examines American views on Europe's monetary union, looking at the political, economic and institutional interests of the US as they are affected by the creation of the Euro: Pier Carlo Padoan considers the Euro as a potential global currency and examines the transition between a regional currency and a global currency.
C. Randall Henning is a visiting fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics. He serves on the faculty of the School of International Service at American University. Pier Carlo Padoan is a professor at the University of Rome and the College of Europe.
