The Essentials of CoreSinging: A Joyful Approach to Singing and Voice Pedagogy presents a unique and innovative outlook by Meribeth Dayme, one of the most important voice pedagogues in modern times. CoreSinging offers a universal approach to singing applicable to any style or level of singing and performance, designed to function as an adjunct or supplement rather than replacement to any other system of singing. The ultimate result transforms fear of singing into joy and ease. CoreSinging is formed on five elements: energy, awareness, imagination, practice, and performance. Each of these elements is present in all stages and levels of singing from beginner to professional. Concepts of energy-physical, metaphysical, mental, emotional, psychological, psychic, and spiritual-help singers transform themselves, their sound, and their performance into an experience of healing for both singer and audience. For the first time, Cynthia Vaughan and Matthew Hoch have compiled and edited this culminating work of Meribeth Dayme. Each chapter systematically presents an essential aspect, complete with exercises to practice and apply to studio and group teaching settings. Additionally, contributors offer targeted strategies through specific case studies for further implementation of CoreSinging principles into one's practice. Appendices also include other select writings of Dayme.
Meribeth Dayme (1938 - 2019), an authority on the singing voice, has given master classes in singing throughout the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe. She is the author of The Singing Book, The Performer's Voice, Dynamics of the Singing Voice, and Creating Confidence. Cynthia Vaughn is a respected singer, voice teacher, author, and clinician. She is the co-author of The Singing Book. Vaughn serves as the associate editor for the "Independent Voices" column in InterNos, the semiannual newsletter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). A certified CoreSinging instructor, she has a decades-long association with Dayme and intimate knowledge of her methods. Matthew Hoch is associate professor of voice at Auburn University. He is the author of A Dictionary for the Modern Singer, coauthor of Voice Secrets: 100 Performance Strategies for the Advanced Singer, and volume editor of So You Want to Sing Sacred Music and So You Want to Sing CCM. Hoch is the 2016 winner of the Van L. Lawrence Fellowship, awarded jointly by the Voice Foundation and the National Association of Teachers of Singing. He is a certified CoreSinging instructor and one of the last students of Dayme, completing his certification shortly before her passing in 2019.
