Recognizing that poor management practice, more than low wages or external factors, is responsible for inconsistency and lack of quality in service delivery, this practical book presents the research-validated Periodic Service Review (PSR) to improve staff training and supervision and to translate principles of effective management into concrete practices and procedures. The PSR is both a system and an instrument, providing home, classroom, supported employment, or other service-setting applications. Using four integrated elements--performance standards, performance monitoring, performance feedback, and systematic training--program directors will be able to mobilize staff, maximize service provision, and meet goals and objectives. No longer do those "who don't know how to manage" need to manage those "who don't know what to do!" Here is the ideal reference for all administrators and supervisors working in human services or educational settings.
Dr. LaVigna founded the Institute for Applied Behavior Analysis (IABA), a psychological corporation, in 1982. A clinical psychologist, Dr. LaVigna is the author of numerous articles, the co-author of two books, Alternatives to Punishment and Progress Without Punishment, and an international lecturer. Dr. Willis is cofounder with Dr. LaVigna of the Institute for Applied Behavior Analysis (IABA), where he currently serves as Associate Director. Dr. Willis has worked as a behavioral consultant for more than 18 years, and has provided training to a wide variety of professional and paraprofessional groups across the United States and abroad. Ms. Shaull is a licensed clinical social worker. She has developed services that include Systematic Training for Employment Program (STEP) and Community Behavioral Services Institute, which supports about 200 adults with developmental disabilities in direct-pay employment in a three-county area in Southern California. Maryam Abedi, Ph.D., is Director of Supported Living Services at the Institute for Applied Behavior Analysis in Los Angeles. The services that Dr. Abedi directs at IABA include Social/Community Integration and Participation (SCIP) and Community Supported Living Arrangement (CSLA), which together support 60 adults with developmental disabilities to live in their own homes. Dr. Abedi has also worked as a behavioral consultant for 9 years, providing consultation in support of individuals who are challenged with developmental disabilities, and whose behavior can be a barrier to full social and community integration. Dr. Sweitzer is a licensed psychologist with over 15 years' experience working with individuals with challenging behaviors. Dr. Sweitzer served as Director of Clinical Services for IABA, before beginning her own private practice. She is currently a behavior consultant in Irvine, CA, advising various agencies, and residential and day programs serving persons with developmental disabilities.
"A goldmine of positive methods that can be used in a range of agencies to enhance the quality of service provided to clients and at the same time enhance staff satisfaction."
