The biography of New York cop Morty Dzikansky, who has travelled the world to monitor and to help prevent terrorism. Terrorist Cop is a colourful, haunting and highly graphic tale of New York City homicide detective Morty Dzikansky. Post 9/11, the NYPD sent Dzikansky to Israel to monitor suicide bombings as part of Commissioner Ray Kelly's plan to protect New York from further terror, which led him to become an expert on suicide bombings. A riveting police biography as well as an insider's view on the War on Terror.
Mordecai Z. Dzikansky, Retired Detective First Grade, spent his 25-year police career with the NYC Police Department. A Brooklyn native, Dzikansky's career began as a uniformed patrolman. Periods in the homicide and detective squads led to him becoming lead investigator of the newly formed specialized Torah Task Force in 1993. From 2003 until 2007, Dzikansky was in Israel as the first NYPD Intelligence Div. Overseas Liaison to the Israel National Police. His intelligence gathering and immediate relay of key information back to NYC enhanced the Department's ability to prevent and recover from terrorist acts. In 2009, two of his written works were published in Countering Terrorism, National Academy of Sciences. Currently, Dzikansky lectures and consults to law enforcement and academics on global security and policing topics. This is his first book. Dzikansky resides in Israel. Robert Slater, who died in 2014, was born in NYC and grew up in South Orange, NJ. He was an honors graduate of the University of PA where he majored in political science. He received a master's of science degree in international relations from the London School of Economics. Slater worked for UPI and Time Magazine and authored 30 books, including the BusinessWeek Bestsellers, Jack Welch & the GE Way, and SOROS: The Life, Times and Trading Secrets of the World's Greatest Investor.
"Meet the Jewish Jack Bauer. Except that NYPD Detective Morty Dzikansky is the real deal: whose first-hand knowledge of suicide terrorism in Israel, Egypt, Turkey, Spain, and Russia has helped keep New Yorkers safe. His compelling personal story and unrivaled experience in understanding how to counter this threat make this book both an invaluable guide and great read. Detective Dzikansky is a true hero with a riveting story and important insights." -- Professor Bruce Hoffman, Georgetown University and author of Inside Terrorism Edmund A Walsh School of Foreign Service Security Studies Program "The Terrorist Cop" gives readers the unique opportunity to follow the development of the fascinating career of a Jewish NYPD detective who, after the atrocities of 9/11, found himself chasing after terrorists in different parts of the world. Detective Dzikansky helps the reader learn about the best in homeland security practices through his personal experiences. This book is a must-read for homeland security practitioners, students in this field, and the public at large -- all those interested in gaining a better understanding of the challenges and dilemmas involved in combating terror". -- Dr. Boaz Ganor, Founder and Executive Director, ICT - The International Institute for Counter-Terrorism Deputy Dean, Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy The Interdisciplinary Center, Herzliya, Israel "This is the fascinating story of a New York City policeman who was stationed in Israel by the NYPD to be a liaison to the Israeli government with the latter's permission. His mission: Work with the Israeli anti-terrorist police units and follow them, train with them, collect intelligence and interact with them on operational missions looking for the nexus between terror in Israel and its potential impact on New York. Morty's story is compelling as he takes the reader inside the most active counter-terrorist police units in the world today. His story contains the horrific scenes of what he saw seconds after suicide bombers ripped open buses and restaurants killing and dismembering scores of innocent civilians. Morty lives and breathes terrorism 24 hours a day. This is a story that will mesmerize you, enthrall you, and sadden you in all of Morty's exploits. It's a truly amazing story, reads like a novel but is all true. Once you pick it up, I guarantee you won't put it down. " -- Steven Emerson, Executive Director, The Investigative Project on Terrorism
