This work is a courageous account of living with a chronic illness, a powerful lesson in self-determination, and a personal declaration of independence.
A native of Syracuse, NY, Suzy Szasz retired as head of Greenwood Library of Longwood University in June 2016 after five years at Longwood. Previously she had been the Deputy Librarian of Virginia (at the Library of Virginia), Associated Dean for Collections, Preservation & Digital Initiatives at the University of Louisville Libraries, and had held various positions at the Cornell University Library for more than 20 years. Suzy is a past president of the Virginia Library Association and also served as Chair of the State Council of Higher Education of Virginia (SCHEV) Library Advisory Council. She has also been vice president/president-elect of the Richmond Academic Library Consortium and the Association of Specialized and Cooperative Library Agencies/State Library Agency Section, a division of the American Library Association (ALA). She remains a member of editorial boards including: LL&M (journal of the American Library Association/Library, Leadership & Management Association) and Public Services Quarterly, and was previously on the board of Preservation, Digital Technology & Culture (and served twice as editor-in-chief under previous titles). She has spoken nationally and internationally on a variety of topics including the ethics of reference service and the future of the book. Suzy interests and time are now devoted to health care and patient engagement & advocacy, political campaigns, and other volunteer work in Richmond, VA.
