Jorie Graham's latest collection continues her urgent attention to climate change, an open letter to the future where 2040 is both the future and event-horizon.
Jorie Graham was born in New York City in 1950. She was raised in Rome and educated in French schools. She studied philosophy at the Sorbonne in Paris before attending New York University as an undergraduate, where she studied filmmaking. She received an MFA in poetry from the University of Iowa. Graham is the author of numerous collections of poetry, including Sea Change (Ecco, 2008), Never (2002), Swarm (2000), The Dream of the Unified Field: Selected Poems 1974-1994, which won the 1996 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, Runaway (2020), and most recently [To] the Last [Be] Human (2022).
* Graham, one of the most celebrated living American poets, is winner of the Forward Prize 2012 and Pulitzer Prize for Poetry 1996. * Graham is part historian, part cartographer as she plots an apocalyptic world narrated by a speaker who reflects on her own mortality. * An urgent open letter to the future, with a habit of looking back, where the year 2040 is both the future and event-horizon. * This collection continues Graham’s attention to our global climate, where the reader leaves the collection warned, infinitely wiser, and yet more attentively on edge
