Existing services for support to victims of domestic violence frequently have minimal impact on reducing either the frequency or severity of domestic violence. As a result, science-practitioners in this field have developed clinical research programmes to inform key practice issues and improve these services. This title describes developed intervention programmes which have been shown to be effective for reducing the incidence, severity or impact of domestic violecne in particular populations. The book also features assessment programmes that identify risk profiles.
Domestic violence: an overview of research that informs practice, Ernest N. Jouriles and John P. Vincent; social information processing skills deficits: summary of a research program, Amy Holtzworth-Munroe; evaluating interventions for men who batter, Julia Babcock, Jaslean LaTaillade; assessment of women who seek shelter from abusing partners, Nanette Stephens and Renee McDonald; understanding the impact of interparental aggression on children: the role of social cognitive processes, John Grych; the community advocay project: iterventions for women witn abusing partners, Cris Sullivan; project support, Renee McDonald and Ernest N. Jouriles; juvenile crime victims: psychological impact and treatment, John P. Vincent, Gerald Harris, Cynthia Vincent, Janette Cross
This is, in sum, a volume that will be of use and relevance to those in marital/relationship and family therapy. The evidence base for the interventions is still limited, but the chapters show what progress has been made, and this alone is a significant contribution. In an area where, rightly, the focus is on making one's interventions as soundly evidence-based as possible, books such as this are a help to the busy practitioner.
