'Batman's Hill, South Staffs' is non-linear sequence of poems set largely in Staffordshire, between 1961 and 1972. Quietly contemplative and playful with language, the poems derive their energy from the dialogue between memory and hindsight, the moments where the present - physically, or through lived experience - throws a clear unrelenting light on the past, 'coming for you in the dark'.
Michael Wyndham Thomas is the author of four novels and six poetry collections, the most recent being Pilgrims at the White Horizon and Angels in the Telegraph Room. His work has been published in the UK, North America and Europe and has appeared in journals such as The Antioch Review, Irish Studies Review, Irish University Review, The London Magazine, Muscadine Lines, The National Gazette (Tirana), Stand Magazine and TLS. He is a regular reviewer and essayist for The London Magazine. A member of the Society of Authors, Michael has also written plays and is Poet-in-Residence at the Robert Frost Festival, Key West, Florida. His prizes and commendations include the Bridport Prize, the A. E. Housman Prize, the Poetry London Prize and the Wasafiri Prize for Fiction.
