Snow is falling on Pettson's farm, and Christmas is approaching. Findus, the talking cat, tells Pettson that he is excited about the Yule Tomte visiting and bringing gifts. Oh dear! thinks Pettson, How can I explain that the Yule Tomte may not visit cats? But Findus is adamant that the Yule Tomte must visit, and because Pettson does not want Findus to be disappointed, he comes up with a plan to build a Yule Tomte that can move and speak and give Findus gifts. But it is going to be very difficult to keep this secret from the curious cat, and even harder to design a convincing mechanical Yule Tomte! What Pettson needs is a little bit of Christmas magic...
Sven Nordqvist (b, 1946) is a well-loved Swedish children's author and illustrator. The Findus and Pettson stories draw on his playful adventures with his two young sons, and his unique illustrations are inspired by a delight in everyday life. Sven Nordqvist sets out intentionally to create a safe world in his Pettson and Findus series; a world in which problems can find resolution. Such a world, he believes, provides the security that children need in today's world: "The world should be comprehensible. Essentially that's how I myself would like it to be."
"The characters are quirky and original, and illustrations are absolutely delightful.... I can't recommend them highly enough."--Philip Pullman
