What are the tipping points that encourage people to make significant changes to their behaviour? Here are ten stories of personal enlightenment and the practical changes they made. This book offers simple alternatives to mass-produced, shop-bought, highly packaged goods. People of all ages can develop the skills and courage to make, create and look after what they have, rather than throw away and buy new. Each chapter will show how to make something, with recipes and methods. The reader will be introduced to the idea of making things they've probably never even thought of making before (for example toothpaste or sanitary pads). This can be a revelation to and help people feel as if they have more control. The reader will hear about the journey of each of the makers and what made them change their perspective and what they believe in. Tips on how to change our behaviour; saving money; how to cut waste and reduce consumption; Tips on how to 'repair, reuse, recycle' and why.
In May 2016, Claudi Williams and her family embarked on an experiment to see whether it is possible to shop, eat, clean, wash and clothe themselves without creating any plastic waste. She ended up being interviewed on the radio and quoted in the newspaper as an example to be followed. The idea came to her after becoming aware of global plastic pollution in the oceans that she experienced at first hand whilst on holiday in the Mediterranean. The devastating effects of plastic pollution on wildlife, and the journey of microplastics up the food chain and onto our plates are now well-documented and the whole world has been talking about reducing plastic use since the broadcasting of Blue Planet in 2017. Now others are joining in the fight to being more sustainable in their everyday lives, so here are tips and recipes to help you make small changes that together will make a big difference.
