Gus, the grumpy talking cat, has his usual doubts about the day. Goats are boring, he says. And a TV commercial starring a goat is dull. It should be featuring a cat.

The girls are not deterred by Gus’ complaints and head off with Winton to the film set created at the end of town. Everything goes well until Winton hears hip-hop music spilling from a window. Suddenly Winton is up on two hooves, busting hip-hop moves until the music stops and he returns to normal. Later, Winton starts line dancing to country music. The girls think Winton’s dancing is wonderful, but Gus reminds them the TV commercial is expecting a calm and placid goat. Feeling worried, they decide to keep Winton away from any music that isn’t classical. Thankfully, when Cassie and Lina finally reach the set with Winton, everyone there agrees he’s the perfect animal for the commercial. Of course, Gus doesn’t agree, he’s complaining again, this time about the classical music creating calm vibes in the background. While Gus whines, the girls to dress up in frilly costumes, perfect for a goat’s milk commercial. The director calls for action and the cameras roll. Everything is perfect, Winton is calm and placid, but Cassie and Lina are worried because grumpy Gus, on the other side of the set, is getting distracted. Before the girls can do anything, Gus has unplugged a cord. Tango music blares across the set! Winton runs away, sweeps Gus off his feet and together they high step across the set. Goat’s milk soap goes flying and chaos ensues – all to the horror of Cassie and Lina! They’ve ruined the commercial! Their pet sitting careers are over! The music stops and Winton and Gus beam with satisfaction while Cassie and Lina try to slip away, unseen, until the director calls them back. ‘That cat’, he says, ‘is a star!’ Gus and Winton’s dancing has made the commercial a huge success, and the film crew cheers with delight!

After a fun morning of glittery craft, and with instructions from Cassie’s Dad to clean up the house for the rent inspection, Cassie and Lina are looking after Bella the bearded dragon. They learn that when Bella is cold, she won’t move at all; it’s when she warms up that she gets active. So, while they are getting the lights in her tank set up, the girls put Bella down, confident she won’t go anywhere. Despite the girls’ delight in Bella, Gus is unimpressed with the lizard. ‘She’s so ugly,’ he insists. ‘Cats are far better looking.’ He’s even more disgusted when she sneezes golden glitter all over him. At first, Cassie and Lina like the glitter Bella sneezes, but it soon seems as if Bella is allergic to Gus. Every time he comes close, she sneezes more glitter. It’s beginning to get messy. Then Gus disappears taking Bella to the bathroom so she can look at herself in the mirror. When the girls realise Bella is missing, they call for Gus and he arrives grumpy and completely covered in gold glitter. It seems that Bella’s allergies are getting worse. The girls hurry to the bathroom to retrieve her but despite there being glitter everywhere, Bella is nowhere to be seen. Cassie’s brother’s habit of leaving the heat lights on must have warmed Bella up so she has crawled away out of sight. Flustered at her brother’s forgetfulness, Cassie closes the toilet lid and Gus settles down on it for a nap. The girls search for Bella in the bathroom to no avail, but when they startle Gus, he leaps into the air and lands heavily on the cistern, accidentally flushing the toilet. The girls are distraught, assuming Bella has fallen into the toilet and been flushed away. They give up hope and return to cleaning the house for the quickly approaching rent inspection. But as they get to work, they notice new splashes of gold glitter and realise that Bella hasn’t been flushed after all. She’s somewhere nearby, and they’re going to need Gus’ help to find her. One sneeze of golden glitter later and Bella is rescued from under the fridge, just in time for the rent inspection. After all, it’s chaos at Lina’s house with three-year-old Timmy and twin babies, and Cassie’s dad doesn’t want another bad experience after what happened with the goldfish years ago. But when the girls are asked to pet sit Gus, the cat from next door, they take the responsibility seriously, hoping they can change their parent’s minds. Gus can stay in Lina’s barn, out of the way of the family, and the girls will look after him. ‘We’re ready for anything,’ they say. But the best friends didn’t count on discovering that adorable, fluffy Gus is a talking cat, and a grumpy one at that. What will they do when he escapes from the barn? Or when he returns to the house, determined to make a mess? It seems that pet sitting is a lot harder than first expected. And when Gus’ owner turns up and takes him home before the girls have had a chance to prove their pet setting capabilities, they’ll have to attend the Pet Parade without a pet of any sort. But grumpy, adorable Gus has a surprise for them when he turns up at the Parade. ‘You kept on loving me when I made a mess,’ he declares. ‘I’m like your pet.’ There’s a happy surprise for Gus too, when he wins the ‘Best Dressed Pet’ award to the applause of the town. His owner, Dr Jim, has left them with instructions to keep Tony’s blanket on, or make sure he’s tied up firmly, as Tony sometimes gets himself into unusual places. While pet sitting Tony, the girls must also watch Lina’s little brother Timmy, while Lina’s mum does some important work from her home office. Mum’s instructions are clear: ‘No chaos! And no emergencies!’ and no unnecessary noise so the twins don’t wake up from their naps. It seems simple enough. But Gus thinks ponies are boring and while the girls are inside decorating Tony’s pony blanket, and Timmy is bouncing on the trampoline, Gus flicks the rope securing Tony’s halter to the fence accidentally setting Tony free. When the girls look out of the window a little while later, they are shocked to see that Timmy, Gus and Tony are all missing from the paddock—even though all the gates are shut! Cassie and Lina race outside and follow the hoof print clues only to discover that not only has Tony grown wings and is now flying awkwardly around the property, but Timmy is having a wonderful time riding him mid-air! Horrified, they find Gus who tells them a long, drawn out story of what has happened… but they can’t listen properly. They need to catch Tony and get Timmy back to the ground, all without waking up the babies or disturbing Lina’s mum! A good strategy of luring Tony using apple pieces from the twins’ morning tea almost works… until Gus takes matters into his own paws, launches himself onto Tony’s rear end, and bumpily rides him into the wet laundry on the line. And without a moment to spare! When Lina’s mum looks out the window, everything seems peaceful and calm apart from Gus hanging tangled and embarrassed from the clothesline. The girls arrive at the Train Show and are introduced to Marmite and Marmalade, the only two mice with special permission to be part of the train display. Ms. Caboose and her fellow judges will come by soon to judge the train scene, but in the meantime the girls get to dress up in beach themed costumes to match the display. While Cassie and Lina are changing, Gus is left to guard the display. When the girls return they are horrified to see two extra mice in the model train with Marmite and Marmalade! Gus can’t help swooning over the mice, and whenever he does, more mice appear! But there is no time to wonder how: the judges are coming over.
