Citizenship Beyond the State

Citizenship Beyond the State is a critical introduction to the concept of citizenship: it challenges the notion that citizenship has to be defined as membership of a state (a notion implicit in Derek Heater's book, and only touched on in Keith Faulks' earlier work). John Hoffman presents a realistic argument for a stateless model of citizenship. John Hoffman discusses other political theories and engage with contemporary issues in the light of this notion of citizenship, eg feminism, nationalism, globalisation. This book will therefore have appeal outside of 'citizenship'. John Hoffman provides a glossary of key terms, and includes summaries of the main points in each chapter.
