Truong Nhu Tang was a founder of the National Liberation Front and Minister of Justice for the Vietcong Provisional Revolutionary Government. He met Ho Chi Minh in Paris as a student and was dazzled by Ho's charisma and commitment. He and many of his colleagues joined with the North Vietnamese in what they thought was a struggle for democratic freedoms for Vietnam. In recognition of his service, after the fall of Saigon, Tang was offered a cabinet position in the government of Vietnam. But he found that the new Vietnam was as unjust as the old, and in 1978 he became one of the boat people fleeing the country he had fought to set free. A Vietcong Memoir is must reading for anyone who wants to understand the war in Vietnam.
