"Cross and Zaniewski have given Wisconsinites--and Wisconsinophiles from other lands--something invaluable: the gift of seeing our world anew."--H-Net Reviews "Readers are taken through the vast physical and cultural landscapes of the state in detail, with a generous complement of photographs and data-rich maps. . . . While The Geography of Wisconsin might present itself as a textbook (and it certainly succeeds in filling that role), it also serves as a useful reference volume for any bookshelf in Wisconsin. Wisconsin, like everywhere else, is facing a time of change. Climatic, political, and economic patterns are all in flux. Given the uncertainty of our present moment, looking back at the physical and cultural context of the state can help not only reveal the contemporary landscape, but also help determine the direction of the future. The Geography of Wisconsin is an elegant starting point for that endeavor."--Wisconsin People & Ideas "Profusely and beautifully illustrated throughout, The Geography of Wisconsin is enhanced for the reader with the inclusion of numerous Tables and Figures, making it impressively comprehensive, exhaustively informative, exceptionally well organized, and throughly 'reader friendly' in presentation. Simply stated, The Geography of Wisconsin is an absolutely essential, unique, and unreservedly addition to community, college, and university library Wisconsin geography and history collections."--Midwest Book Review "An engaging introduction to the physical features of this state. Authors John A. Cross and Kazimierz J. Zaniewski, both emeritus professors of geography at UW-Oshkosh, also devote considerable attention to the human geography of Wisconsin, including settlement patterns and economic activity."--Milwaukee Journal Sentinel "Written by Wisconsin's 'dean of geography, ' and with cartographic contributions by Dr. Zaniewski, The Geography of Wisconsin is a tour de force--a must have for anyone interested in the state's prehistoric and contemporary environmental and human landscapes. This book will stand the test of time as one of the most important contributions to geographic study written about the Badger state."--Christopher R. Laingen, author of American Farms, American Food
