Don Troiani's Regiments & Uniforms of the Civil War

Don Troiani attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and New York City's Art Students League. His artwork is in numerous major collections, including American Heritage magazine, the National Park Service, the U. S. Military Academy at West Point, the Pentagon, and the Smithsonian Institute. Earl J. Coates, former curator of the National Security Agency, is a leading authority on Civil War uniforms. Now retired and living in Gettysburg, he has been involved with Maryland Arms Collectors, the North-South Skirmish Association, and the Friends of Gettysburg National Park. Michael J. McAfee is an author of numerous books and articles. He is a collector of Civil War photography and an authority on Civil War uniforms, particularly Zouaves. He is a curator at the West Point Museum at the United States Military Academy.

This is a large format, soft-cover book which I think is fabulous. The American Civil War is a period I am getting more interested in myself recently, and this just fires that interest some more. At the core of the book are the quite stunning paintings by Don Troiani, now acclaimed for his pictures that illustrate this important period in American history.... Even those not normally interested in the ACW could pick this up and enjoy looking through the superb artwork of Don Troiani. For the ACW historian, there is simply lots of information to get from reading all the background to the many regiments they cover, and an understanding of the uniforms and equipment they wore. Then for the modeller, there is simply so much inspiration in the artwork on display both with the detail of the varied uniforms but in possible poses and diorama settings if you choose to try and replicate any of these scenes in model form. An excellent book on all counts in my view and with an RRP of GBP24.99, good value for money. * Military Model Scene *
