Michael Lee Lanning graduated from Texas A&M and served more than twenty years in the U.S. Army, including in Vietnam, where he commanded an infantry platoon, a recon platoon, and a rifle company. His other books include the classic memoir Vietnam, 1969-1970, which the New York Times called “one of the most honest and horrifying accounts of a combat soldier’s life to come out of the Vietnam War,” and Inside Force Recon.
