." . the book was utterly and joyfully devoured in less than ten minutes. The problem with the book is simply that it is so thrilling that it is almost unbelievable." "An important message is communicated through the tale of the heroic adventures of this young girl-- regardless of age, gender, or size, anyone can be a hero." "We hear complaints from many people that there are not enough fur trade sories for young children, especially girls. . . Dr. Simmons' exciting telling of this incident during the War of 1812 is a pleasant antidote to that criticism. Intended for kids from five to eleven, it's exciting, full of Ron Kil's bright, action-filled pictures, and has a great message of bravery, sacrifice, and patriotism for youngsters. Best of all, it's true." "Because of its heroic subject, it is a wonderful example of frontier girl power."
