Description

John Donald Robb (1892-1989), professor and dean emeritus of the College of Fine Arts at the University of New Mexico, USA, (1942-1957), was responsible for the growth of fine arts at the University of New Mexico in the 1940s and 1950s. A composer of stage, classical, and electronic music, Robb was also the author of Hispanic Folk Music of New Mexico and the Southwest: A Self-Portrait of a People (UNM Press).

Cancionero presents a highly significant publication related to the beautiful and rich musical legacy of New Mexican culture and history, and it is an important contribution to the work of musicologists, historians, folklorists, language and literary scholars, and many other areas of research. Its greatest contribution, however, is the music itself and the role it can play in the lives of musicians, singers, and the general public. --New Mexico Historical Review
