He is the author of Inspiration and Innovation: Religion in the American West and God's Country, Uncle Sam's Land: Faith and Conflict in the American West. Fred E. Woods is a professor of religious education at Brigham Young University. He is the author or coauthor of many books, including most recently Ports to Posts: Latter-day Saint Gathering in the Nineteenth Century (Bison Books, 2025) and Bright Lights in the Desert: The Latter-day Saints of Las Vegas.
