Readers familiar with Cohen's previous scholarship will expect that the author's careful reading of primary sources from the late antique through early modern past will not only enhance our understanding of earlier eras but will also inform how we understand ourselves in our own present day, and they will not be disappointed. By calling attention to the many roles and faces of eschatological Jews in the construction of Christian as well as Western self-consciousness, Cohen has begun an important conversation. (Journal of Religion) The Salvation of Israel is a much-needed study of the development of eschatological thought throughout early Christianity and the Middle Ages... an excellent resource for readers working across a broad historical range of Jewish-Christian relations (Digital Philology: A Journal of Medieval Cultures) Cohen is at his best as a historian. His methodology is refined, and he approaches the Christian texts with acumen and clarity. This text is an excellent work of historical scholarship that uses interpretations of Romans to outline Christians' perspectives on the salvation of the Jews, a topic deserving more attention (Studies in Christian-Jewish Relations)
