Description

George is an award-winning children's book writer, playwright, and screenwriter. Dixi Books published How Hope Became an Activist, which Readers' Favorite called "uplifting and optimistic." It was a Finalist for the Lit/Onatine Award for the most thought-provoking books. Another picture book, Sophia's Secrets, won the Pacific Northwest Writers' Association Children's Story Competition (Clavis Books, 2023). Varisa and the Mountains (Simply Read Books, 2021) was a Finalist in the Chocolate Lily Book Award and a Finalist in the San Francisco Writers Conference Contest, as was Aldo Renaldo and the Renegade Alphabet (Histria Kids, 2023). Pinky's Loving Story is forthcoming from Histria Kids, and two humorous children's books are forthcoming from Starfish Bay Publishers in Australia. George recently took early retirement to write full time after 34 years as a Professor at Thompson Rivers University in British Columbia. He believes in the power of literature to create empathy, and much of his work reflects his longtime advocacy for social justice, for which he received the YWCA Peace Medal in 2019. His eco-comedy play, Boomerangst, was produced by Chimera Theatre in 2023. His environmental songs from that show, Climate Crisis and Salmon Run, with his band Intensive Care, are available on all platforms. He enjoys camping, canoeing, cross-country skiing, and swimming in and around Kamloops. Although he chose a career in literature, he has always loved math and was delighted to discover so many fascinating things about numbers while researching Aldo's second adventure in the Aldo Renaldo Series.
