Description

Norman J. Hyne, Ph.D. has had both academic and professional experience in petroleum. He received his degrees in geology from Pomona College, Florida State University and the University of Southern California. In 2017, he received an international reward recognizing his contributions to geological education. Currently, he is a semi-retired, professor of petroleum geology in Continuing Education for Science and Engineering at the University of Tulsa. For several decades, he has taught three-day short courses on petroleum geology, exploration, drilling and production to over forty thousand students on six continents. This book is based on his short course. Previously, he was professor of petroleum geology and chairman of geology and geophysics at the University of Tulsa. During the oil boom days, he owned and operated oil wells. He has authored or edited seven books and numerous scientific papers. Dr. Hyne is a fellow in the Geological Society of America, an honorary member of the Tulsa Geological Society and an emeritus member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. He established and serves as director of a charity, the Tulsa Geoscience Center, for Grade School Classes. Dr. Hyne has completed almost all the major hiking treks in South America, North America, Europe, and Asia and has climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. He is the only member of the Explorers Club in the state of Oklahoma.
