Harry Saul Markham, a 25-year-old recent graduate of University College London (UCL), takes a keen interest in addressing threats to democracy, social cohesion, and the rights of minorities. In his roles as a Junior Research Fellow at the Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy and an Advisory Board member of Academics for Academic Freedom, he has been involved in discussions with policymakers, journalists, and other prominent public figures in advancing centrist, but bold, approaches to some of the major social issues facing Western Europe. As the former Head of Research and Policy at the Association of British Muslims, the oldest Muslim organization in the UK, Markham supported not only important counter-extremism initiatives, but also novel efforts to renew Jewish-Muslim relations.
Description
"The Melted Pot is a rare and necessary book, which calls for honest conversation about the challenges and promises of multiculturalism. This urgent and brave book offers not just critique, but a roadmap for renewal-a path toward a multiculturalism that does not compromise on democratic principles. Read this book!" - Natan Sharansky, human rights activist, former political prisoner, and author of The Case for Democracy, a New York Times Bestseller "Multiculturalism is the collectivist philosophy that was enthusiastically applied in the West in the last few decades. It has hollowed out European and American institutions and rendered nationhood meaningless. It has become among other things a vehicle that enables Anti-Semitism. Everyone needs to read Harry Saul Markham's book, The Melted Pot, not only to understand how this happened, but crucially what to do about it." - Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Human Rights Activist & Bestselling Author, Research Fellow, The Hoover Institution. "Are you shocked by the rise of authoritarian populism in Europe? Stunned by the rise of antisemitism in the continent that seemed to have learned the lessons of the Holocaust? Flabbergasted that the apparently irresistible idea of a liberal, cosmopolitan world order is plunging in popularity? If so, there must be something about the present you're not understanding. With style, humanity, and good sense, Harry Markham diagnoses the problems that Europe has blundered into and points the way toward restoring the vision that once inspired it." - Steven Pinker, Johnstone Professor of Psychology, Harvard University, and the author of Enlightenment Now. "We need more books like this exposing not only the evils but also the dangers of tolerating antisemitism." - Professor Alan Dershowitz, Harvard University, best-selling author, leading lawyer
