Dimitris G. Michalopoulos obtained his Ph.D. at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, in Paris. He has served as the Curator of the Archives of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Constantine Karamanlis (1980-1982), Lecturer and Assistant Professor of Diplomatic and Balkan History at the Aristotelian University of Salonika (1982-1994), Professor of European History at the Naval War College of Greece (1990-1997), and Professor of Naval History at the Naval Academy of Greece (1994-1997). From 1990 to 2000, he was Director of the Museum of the City of Athens, and served from 2004 to 2011 as Acting Director of the Historical Institute for Studies on Eleutherios Venizelos and his Era. He is currently an Acting Academic Advisor to the Institute of Hellenic Maritime History and lectures on Greek and Balkan History at the People's University, Athens.
