For those who saw news reports of hospitals dealing with COVID-19 and want a personal behind-the-scenes understanding, Marguerite Bouvard's book is a compelling and sobering dive into the eye of a pandemic. Not many people realize that working in the ICU and the step down of a hospital during Covid-19 is like working in a war zone, surrounded by deaths, and overwhelmed with the number of patients.--Mary L. Rosser M.D., Ph.D. In 2020, the coronavirus cataclysm wreaked havoc on America's medical system. Marguerite Bouvard movingly chronicles the personal stories of heroic doctors and nurses who were thrust into wartime conditions, having to devise treatments, deal with unfathomable sorrow, and combat misinformation. Bouvard's vivid account reveals how the pandemic exposed the racial, societal, and environmental challenges that must be addressed.--Isaac Schiff M.D. C.M Marguerite Bouvard examines the complex relations between many of the social, political, economic and medical challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. She discusses the lives of doctors struggling with the increased work load, while staying current on the rapidly evolving science and management of the Covid-19 infection and simultaneously caring for their families. As a doctor who has been constantly adjusting to the rapidly changing demands on our professional and personal lives during the Pandemic of 2020-2021, this book reveals the many challenges we have all faced as a result of this virus.--Daniel Gaposchkin M.D., Ph.D
