In Pearls, Peaches, and Peddlers: Short Essays on Arkansass Amazing History, Tom Dillard offers a lively portrait of Arkansas that reveals how the state was shaped by ordinary people, unexpected industries, and moments of upheaval both grand and small.

The seventy-four essays collected here draw upon Dillards career as a historian, archivist, educator, and preservationist to challenge familiar myths, reveal overlooked stories, and demonstrate how the history of one state can illuminate the larger American experience.

Tom Dillard was the first historian of the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism, the first archivist at the University of Central Arkansas, and the first curator of the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies, where he founded the online Encyclopedia of Arkansas. The author of Statesmen, Scoundrels, and Eccentrics: A Gallery of Amazing Arkansans, he penned a regular column on Arkansas history for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
