Samirah Alkassim is an assistant professor of film theory at George Mason University. She is a series editor of the Palgrave Studies in Arab Cinema and her publications include the coauthored The Cinema of Muhammad Malas, contributions to the Historical Dictionary of Middle Eastern Cinema, and chapters in Cinema of the Arab World: Contemporary Directions in Theory and Practice; Refocus: The Films of Jocelyne Saab; and Gaza on Screen. Ziad El-Bayoumi Foty is an independent film director and founder of the film production company, Foty Fusion Films, where he produces films that focus on underrepresented stories with strong social justice themes. He has taught film studies and production at various institutions, including George Mason University, Catholic University, and Howard University. He is also the founder of a web design firm, Design in DC.
