Description

Rough Guides are written by expert authors who are passionate about both writing and travel. They have detailed knowledge of the areas they write about--having either traveled extensively or lived there--and their expertise shines through on every page. It's priceless information, delivered with wit and insight, providing the down-to-earth, honest read that is the hallmark of Rough Guides. Thomas Bird has been wandering Asia so long he can't remember quite how long. His words have appeared in a host of international publications including BBC Travel, South China Morning Post and Nikkei Asia. Bird has co-authored more than 20 guidebooks. His travelogue Harmony Express: Travels by Train Through China was published in 2023 by Earnshaw Books. He likes craft beer and the teachings of Zhuangzi. Christopher Cottrell made media in China between 2003 and 2021, and now covers the Middle Kingdom from Thailand. He has contributed with Macau Business, New York Times, South China Morning Post, and once upon a time was a food and drink editor at that's Shanghai magazine. His favourite Chinese foods are Chongqing hot pot, Shanghai xiao long bao soup dumplings, and Macau back alley pork chop buns. He has a forthcoming media memoir called Swing Dynasty about forging magazines and media in China during the early 2000s. Terry Duckham first visited China on assignment for Cathay Pacific Airways in 1979. He then moved to Hong Kong from Sydney, Australia, in 1980 and eventually established Asiapix Studios, a photography, design and media services company, working throughout China, Southeast Asia and the Pacific. Terry has worked closely with Odyssey Guides & Maps as Managing Editor and contributor, and a number of local publications, including Quest magazine, Action Asia, Macau Motor Sports, Asian Boating, Over Hong Kong, The Correspondent and South China Morning Post, as well as mainstream international media. Andrew Wells-Qu is a Chinese-American philosopher with 15 years in China. His way began with perplexity in ancient Greece, grew further mystified through Daoism, and has lately descended into Buddhism. His forthcoming book is on the sacred mountains of China. He is now based in Shanghai with 1 dog and 5 cats (at last count).
