George Muir left Gordonstoun School at 16 to become an apprentice engineer on a whaling ship and then went on to studyphysics and mathematics at Aberdeen University. For the following thirty years he worked for Morgan Grenfell advisingcompanies on their financial affairs. In a lucky break, he was asked to become Managing Director of the newly privatised railwaycompany, Connex South Eastern, and later to be Director-General of the Association of Train Operating Companies. Sinceretiring he has created theatrical performances of the Putney Debates, the life and poems of Robert Burns and the life and songsof Bob Dylan.
