Candice Bourke is a Senior Financial Wealth Advisor and devoted mother to Hailey, whose journey with Bloom syndrome inspired this story. Alongside her professional career, Candice dedicates her time to advocacy, awareness, and research for rare genetic conditions. As a Board Member of the Bloom Syndrome Association, she works with medical researchers and families to create hope, community, and progress for those affected. She has been a passionate advocate since Hailey was diagnosed with Bloom syndrome at just 18 months old. Her daughter’s courage and joy inspired Benny and His Butterfly – a story that celebrates resilience, difference, and kindness while gently introducing readers to Bloom syndrome, one of the rarest genetic conditions in the world. Candice collaborates with the Garvan Institute of Medical Research to advance studies aimed at developing safer, more effective cancer treatments. Not only for Bloom syndrome patients, but for all individuals impacted by genetic instability disorders. Through her writing, Candice hopes to foster empathy and understanding among children and families, encouraging them to see beauty in uniqueness and strength in vulnerability. A portion of the proceeds from this book will support Bloom syndrome research and family support initiatives. When she’s not writing or advocating, Candice treasures spending time with Hailey, exploring the outdoors, reading bedtime stories, and finding magical moments in everyday things.
