Description
A book of hope when all we are offered is fear. Holding conflict lightly, the book is Mim’s exploration of the question she asks herself when she feels overwhelmed, fearful and her hope is eroding: the world is in crisis—what can I do?
We are facing unprecedented rapid change, uncertainty and complexity. Systems that once served us are failing, and some are collapsing. These pressures are felt not only globally, but also locally—in sporting clubs, families, schools and even the local choir.
The ideal reader is the person who is losing hope, feeling overwhelmed and fearing for the future; a leader seeking clarity in complexity and leading in coherence; change-makers wanting an alternative approach to influencing change; a parent seeking calm in the chaos to better understand how they can support their family; and the person who says to themselves, “There’s nothing I can do,” or who is feeling frustrated, angry, disconnected and lonely.
Mim is seeking to build a pathway to peace. When she asked AI for the answer, there was a “null” response. So, with that as the starting point, and the premise that “everyone wants peace”, she decided to find an answer. A heart-centred leader with 30 years of practical experience, she decided to write a book that would help her and the reader find the answer.
The feeling of the book is as if the reader is sitting with Mim, or a friend, in comfortable chairs, with a cup of their favourite brew steaming in their hands, talking through what is on their minds: the worries, concerns, and moments of hope and love. A debrief that soothes the soul and offers hope. Each chapter offers a few questions to continue the conversation and contemplation with the second cup.
To answer the question, “What can I do?”, the reader is taken through a series of lenses to explore the problem. Starting with a macro (global) view, the reader is offered the stark reality of statistics and a rear-view look at humanity’s track record. The shock is softened with stories and gentle questioning by Mim’s curious mind.
Right from the start, the starkness of the topic is balanced with Mim introducing the reader to the possibility of each of us being a Peace Builder. Each chapter ends with an invitation for the reader to reflect. The reader is then reminded of how humanity has overcome conflict, and hope returns. As they continue through the book, it begins to build.
The reader travels from the macro and externalities to the internal, and explores how the external impacts us in different ways. Mim shares her own experiences of frustration, fear, anxiety and trauma in a gentle way that the reader can understand and may know to be true in themselves. The reader is then taken to a deeper exploration. The reader is asked to consider who they are now, followed by who they can be as they harness the practice of a Peace Builder.
The book concludes with the question for the reader: in a gentle way, how can I shake the world?
To influence change in this moment, we are being asked to step into coherence, where mind, body and heart work together—a system in harmony. For outer influence begins from within.
