Joao (or Johannes) de Laet was a Dutch historian, geographer, and director of the Dutch West India Company. Born in Antwerp, he later moved to the Dutch Republic, where he became a prominent scholar of geography and colonial expansion. De Laet wrote extensively on global trade, navigation, and history, drawing on a wealth of contemporary sources. His other notable works include Historia Naturalis Brasiliae, which documents Brazil's natural history and indigenous cultures. John Somervell Hoyland was a British scholar, translator, and writer with a deep interest in Indian history and culture. Educated at Oxford, he was involved in educational and religious work in India, which influenced his translations and writings. His other works include writings on Indian philosophy, religion, and cross-cultural interactions between Europe and South Asia. S.N. Banerjee was Professor at Mohindra College Patiala.
