Description

Mohsen Janatpour has been a professor of math, physics, and astronomy at the College of San Mateo since 1979 and the coordinator of the Astronomy Program since 1992. His research specialties include the special and general theory of relativity and cosmology. He holds two M.S. degrees in mathematics and physics from San Jose State University. For the last 30 years, as an artist and philosopher, his research and lectures have focused on the nature of human mental imagery and aesthetic judgment.

"In the grand, sweeping tradition of early twentieth century Continental theorists like Adorno and Merleau-Ponty, Mohsen Janatpour's Conjunctive Theory: Mental Imagery in the Arts and Sciences offers a lively and provocative deep dive into the perception of beauty, and the beauty of perception. Gracefully interweaving physiology and aesthetics, conveyed through personal yet rigorous language, Conjunctive Theory holds special appeal for both STEM geeks and STEAM hipsters." David Laderman, Professor of Film, College of San Mateo, Author of Driving Visions: Exploring the Road Movie and Punk Slash! Musicals: Tracking Slip-Sync on Film
